Simon Critchley and Will Holder

Pavilion is delighted to present a two-evening event with eminent philosopher Simon Critchley and writer and designer Will Holder.

On the first evening, Critchley will give a lecture on his most recent thinking which proposes a “faith of the faithless, a belief for non-believers that insists that the utopian impulse in political thinking is not dead.” Critchley will discuss the notion of ‘supreme fiction’ and whether the category of fiction can be mobilised politically.

New works available now.

SteelReid Studio is a collaboration between artists Pennie Steel and Brian Reid.

Our aim is to offer exhibitions of our work in DVD form.
We have several titles available such as 'OCEAN' a work by Brian Reid of stunning digital images. Brian's response to light and ocean is a remarkable insight to this artists thinking. Running time 24 minutes.

AIR Interview: Rosalind Davis on the new coalition

Published on a-n, June 2010

AIR member Rosalind Davis is a mixed media painter and graduate from the RCA. She creates melancholic dystopian landscapes that explore human experience and identity. A freelance lecturer and creative practitioner with work in both public and private collections, Davis is also founding member of Core Gallery, an artist led exhibition space in Creekside, the new art hotspot in Deptford, London. Here she discusses her thoughts on the new coalition government and how cuts to arts funding will affect her personally.

Michael Cooper

13 July - 21 August 10

Established sculptor and stone carver Michael Cooper presents his first major solo show in London which includes previously unseen characters from his truely wonderful, personal menagerie. Cooper’s carving technique means that mass and gravity are ever present in the characterful animals he depicts. Indeed the essential character of his subjects are allowed to materialise through the slow process of chipping away at blocks of intractable stone. Irresistibly tactile, Cooper’s surfaces attract the sense of touch as much as the visual caress.

Fallis in Wonderland

Fallis In Wonderland5 May - 3 July 10

Inspired by Lewis Carroll's classic fantasy, "Alice in Wonderland," Fallis uses humour and absurd distortion to draw our attention to the issues that trouble her - mass consumerism, scientific distortion and environmental destruction: "When we consider our planet and its entire species we really are living in a wonderland," she says. "In these works I am concerned about the growing divide between human kind and nature."
