Fine Art Printing

Is it just me or is it really difficult to find good quality, consistant, value for money fine art printing?

I think I have cracked the greetings card printing, I have just had some cards printed by Abacus in Cumbria and they were spot on and lovely people to deal with, but they don't offer short print runs of 100 or so. I have just had a very awkward episode with Think-Ink in Ipswich who failed to print me 10 quality posters and were rather rude and sent me a dubious reprint weeks after my exhibition had finished (I had planned it all well in advance) I will never use them again, so be warned people.

But 10 out of 10 must go to Focal Point in Exeter. A smashing team of experts who printed my yummy scrummy prints on beautiful rag paper in a matter of days. I can confidently say I will be using them again.

I would be interested to hear of anyone else's experiences. Do you think you get 'fobbed of' with technical jargon by printers who think you are daft just because you are an artist?

Printing is a process for

Printing is a process for reproducing text and image, typically with ink on paper using a printing press. It is often carried out as a large-scale industrial process, and is an essential part of publishing and transaction printing.
Professional digital printing (using toner) primarily uses an electrical charge to transfer toner or liquid ink to the substrate it is printed on. Digital print quality has steadily improved from early color and black & white copiers to sophisticated colour digital presses like the Xerox iGen3, the Kodak Nexpress, the HP Indigo Digital Press series and the InfoPrint 5000. The iGen3 and Nexpress use toner particles and the Indigo uses liquid ink. The InfoPrint 5000 is a full-color, continuous forms inkjet drop-on-demand printing system. All handle variable data and rival offset in quality. Digital offset presses are also called direct imaging presses, although these presses can receive computer files and automatically turn them into print-ready plates, they cannot insert variable data.

Fine Art Printing

Hi I have been fine Art Printing in house for the last ten years for my father, Robert Fletcher Wildlife Artist. We have just developed a new display area for Roberts work and A dedecated print area using the Canon ipf 8000. A 12 ink pigment ink system which is excellent for fine art printing. Abacus are our nearest printer we have never used them because of cost. We have set up the print area for mainly our own use but also with the view of setting up a printing service for other Artists and photographers. We can print on to most art papers and canvas and willing take on small run offs at reasonable prices. I have degree in design and technology and my father is a well known Wildlife Artist web site www.robertfletcherwildlifeartist.co.uk. Iam in the process of up dating our web site with further details

I use someone local who i was referred to. It's always good to ask around other artists who use quality stuff rather than looking for the cheapest print out there...

Sounds like that you have a few bad experiences, I use a company called ARTWORKS based in Peterborough. They produce giclee prints, cards, postcards, posters etc. All to the highest quality and all at economical prices. The company is owned and run by Steve Meadwell and he contactable via his web site http://artworksrepro.co.uk/, his service and attention to detail is second to none, he operates in close contact with yourself and prints everything to your requirenments not his.
