Reichstag Sugar Cube Dome by Brendan Jamison
BRENDAN JAMISON AT JEMA, PLATZ DER REPUBLIK, THE REICHSTAG, BERLIN, GERMANY
'Reichstag Zuckertüte Kuppel' (Reichstag Sugar-cube Dome) is a solo exhibition by Belfast-based sculptor Brendan Jamison in the Berlin wing of the John Erickson Museum of Art.
To celebrate the 10th aniversary of the world famous Norman Foster designed dome, Jamison was invited to build a sugar-cube version of this state-of-the-art glass and metal edifice. In reference to the iconic 1995 wrapping of the then domeless Reichstag by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, JEMA Director Sean Miller commissioned the production of a special wrapping fabric to cover the entire sugar sculpture, a wrapping that will be untied to reveal the sugar-cube dome at the opening night.
The show will open on Sunday 28th June at 8:30 pm, Platz der Republik, The Reichstag, Berlin. The John Erickson Museum of Art will later travel the exhibition to the Harn Museum in Florida (September 2009) marking the start of its North American tour.
