My painting is a direct response to the world around me. I work in oils which I love for their painterly qualities. I am interested in the composition of the image in relation to the edges of the support; a strong underlying two-dimensional design, and a fascination with light, colour and mood.

I paint a variety of subject matter always from the subject: the figure, landscape, and still life. Some larger work is painted in my studio at home from drawings and paintings. I work in sketchbooks where ever I go and put a great deal of emphasis on drawing believing that it underpins all good painting. Life Drawing is a regular part of my practice.

I have access to an artist's studio on the Suffolk coast where the ever changing sea and sky dominates. It’s a wonderful vantage point for observing people walking or sitting on the beach and the sea wall, either in conversation or quiet reflection.

The last five summers were spent in Italy painting people and the landscape, and studying the art and architecture of that beautiful country. Previous to that I have travelled widely throughout France and Spain both painting and studying Western Art.

Though I have always had a flair for pencil and chalk drawing, I began oil painting at the age of 12, studied hard, developed a talent and practiced in every spare moment, enjoying early regional competition success and media publicity for my work in the North of England. Fortunately, my tutors recognized my skill and encouraged me to undertake both my Ordinary and Advanced level art exams a few years earlier than my peers, which I passed with the top grades. Being financially driven at that time, in 1983 I graduated in engineering and with a passion to travel, I initially pursued a career as a design consultant with various International design consulting companies, residing primarily in the Middle East. Nevertheless, an artisan at heart, I returned to Commercial Art several years ago as a semi professional freelance artist, and have extensively developed artistry and my own personal style through exhaustive self tuition and 'burning' the midnight oil. I actively display my artwork in my website, galleries, magazine publications, shows and exhibitions and have recently been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts.

I am a Russian-born artist based in Scotland. Some of my works might imply something very absurd and not entirely cheerful in their very idea, but I try to present the subject so it is slightly exaggerated and sentimental, and always filled with emotions. Russians are guided by their emotions, not by common sense, and this has an effect on all my work (whether I am paying myself a compliment here, I am not sure..).
My characters might look quite realistic and recognisable, but their grotesque figures make them look ironic-we see one thing but they tell us another. Like many things in life-things are not always the way they seem. In other words, life as we see it but don't always notice.
I want to provoke a comment, a reaction, an emotion. I want to make you smile.
Growing up under the authoritarian Soviet regime, when ordinary Russians had to wear that drab look of obedience and self suppression, I had always wanted to escape from that total uniformity and find the way to express my vision of life in a different way, reflecting happier, funnier side of everyday events.

My characters sometimes seem emotionally isolated, keeping themselves to themselves, even when they are clustered in groups, but they are not lacking emotions, they only express them in their own way. They are content and happy, yet they do not take themselves too seriously.

Rona uses a mostly monochromatic palate of oil on canvas to paint images of people. She is interested in the inner psyche and in capturing a particular mood. She paints what is close to her and hopes to gain a greater understanding in doing so. Her themes focus primarily on relationships and past works have included the role of women in Japanese society, the family, pregnancy, motherhood and a series based on the 1950s. Colin Bailey is a British artist and printmaker living and working in Hastings, East Sussex after living in Rye for ten years and Kings Cross, London for fifteen years.
As a painter and etcher with a love of traditional methods and techniques, and with a printmaker's instinct for multiple images, Colin has also accepted modern art technology and makes full use of digital photography, high resolution scanning and archival quality giclee printing to reproduce his original paintings as limited edition fine art prints. At the same time Colin continues to create the detailed tonal original etchings for which he was originally best known.

I make expressive carved sculptures in a variety of media, sometimes for commissions. I have worked on sculptures in Canada, Serbia, and Italy, and spend part of each year in Italy at a studio in Carrara. My work is figurative and also abstract.
