northdevonarts's picture

North Devon Arts was formed in 1998 from a need expressed by rurally isolated artists in the area, of wanting to feel connected, meet like-minded people and feeling they could be a greater voice for the Arts in North Devon by joining forces.

NDA is a constituted, membership group (with over 200 members), meeting on the second Wednesday evening of each month, usually at Broomhill Art Hotel. These meetings are open to all interested in the Arts, with a charge of £4 for non-members. Each meeting has a subject and topics are enormously varied. In the past we've had formal presentations by guest speakers including Peter Randall Page and Chris Chapman, plus informal discussions on aspects of art, poetry readings, demonstrations and a performance of dance. Arrive at 7.15 pm to network with members over a delicious hot buffet supper - phone the Broomhill Art Hotel to book supper on 01271 850 262.

The annual exhibition, held in January/February of each year, is the highlight of our year. Generously hosted by the Broomhill Art Hotel in Muddiford, it gives all members the opportunity to exhibit their work in an internationally renowned contemporary art gallery and to gain support from colleagues and the public and a chance for the cross-fertilisation of ideas and future collaborations.

My work is intended to be "images to delight the eye and provoke thought", and includes a variety of media including book art, collage, paint, textiles and printmaking. The images are sometimes representational sometimes abstracted, and emphasize line, form and colour. After a history degree from Oxford, a PGCE from Warwick University and a City and Guilds qualification in textiles I gained a degree in Art and Design from the University of Hertfordshire. I have had a variety of solo and group exhibitions in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and also work to commission, and run workshops in making pop-ups and books.

We are manufacturers of picture frames and photo frames to the trade. We specialise in supplying the photographic and art industries along with anyone else who wants to buy a quantity of frames. We manufacture our own brand of ready made photo frames and have done for the last 20 years. All frames are hand made by ourselves in our Gloucestershire factory. As well as supplying frames we have artwork from some of the UK's leading artists for sale at incredible prices!

Nestled in the heart of Frome's artistic community, Rook Lane Arts is a converted chapel that holds art exhibitions, music events, a retro market and talks.

The original chapel was built in 1707 and served the community of Frome until 1968 but then followed 25 years of dereliction. Through the 90s, the space was used by artists for informal workshops, performances and exhibitions but it wasn't until 2001 that NVB Architects moved in to renovate the chapel and build a contemporary annex at the rear.

The chapel is now home to Rook Lane Arts Trust.

Two spacious galleries host a huge range of exhibitions. These include contemporary art from local and nationally famous artists, and loans from major museums and galleries in the UK and overseas.

The building is also home to Woking's Story, an interactive museum of the town's history from the 19th Century to the present day. Here you can listen to people’s memories of life in Woking and watch historic films.

As well as art and history, there is often the chance to explore science and the natural world – usually with a family-friendly theme.

If you’re visiting with children (or with your parents!) you’ll find plenty to keep them occupied. There are lots of hands-on activities and interactive displays.

You can also enjoy a coffee, lunch, or even a pre-theatre dinner in our canalside bistro. Afterwards you can browse for a special gift or memento of your visit in our gift shop.

Visitors with disabilities will find the building is easy to use. It has been designed to be one of the most accessible cultural venues in the South East.

Bo Lee works with found and personally shot footage to recreate a theme that occurs in his mental consciousness. He visualizes on film or video, the tendencies of our human society and displays the underlying emotion that is embedded in our psychological system.

Themes for his work range from religion, to environmental or emotional injustice as most of Bo Lee's work derives from the need to showcase the struggles that take place but the primary concern in all his work is the story. Whether the story is inherent within the visuals, or whether it lies as a back drop, the need for it is true in all his works.

Favoring the raw texture of found footage, he embraces the technological advances in his craft but only to challenge the notion of what he can do. Currently he has taken curiosity with the possibilities of HTML and the Internet as a medium, with works such as "The Elephant" and "Art as a Commodity," but also have been working with his traditional video medium, collaborating with artist Ryan Anzures on a 3 channel Installation titled, "Death By a 1000 Frames."
