Retired college lecturer now free to paint.
I am a self taught artist and I have been drawing and working in pastels for many years. In 2007 I decided to take up my art full time and try my hand at watercolour painting. I have found great enjoyment teaching myself to use watercolour paint.
I take commissions for paintings and specialise in Animal / Pet portraits.
I am a painter living in Rutland. Using mostly watercolours I paint landscapes using a loose and impressionistic, sometimes witty and whimiscal style, in a simple naive almost childlike perspective. My paintings depict coastal fishing towns, villages and market towns in the countryside. The images I create are not a true photographic facsimile but my interpretation of the landscape. I try and capture the essence, ambiance and the spirit of the place and people I choose to paint.
I have sold my paintings from exhibitions in Rutland, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Wales, and various locations and galleries in Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Essex, London, Nottinghamshire and Wales.
Also since launching my web site I have sold all over the world, including USA, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Romania, Spain, Holland, Peru plus many more and all over the UK. If you wish to look at my paintings and maybe perhaps buy one please look in my Gallery. Prints are also available.
IN THE PICTURES I LIKE TO PAINT IT WOULD NOT BE UNCOMMON TO FIND A TARTEN THERMOS FLASK. IN FACT IN SOME OF MY PAINTINGS THEY MAY EVEN BE COMPULSORY. THIS IS THE WORLD I AM INTERESTED IN.
Most of us are not really that trendy and confident, super rich or deliciously attractive. Almost all of us are just doing the best we can. I want to celebrate that. Of course I am not unique this very British movement. William Hogarth, LS Lowry and Alfred Wallace were masters of it, and current artists such as Charles Williams carry it on. This is just my small contribution to this genre.
I cherish the uniqueness of our dilapidated seaside towns, stumbling light industries and the ‘wearing slippers to the off license’ easy going part of culture.
Thank you for stopping by.

I produce Watercolours Giglee Prints and a full range of Greeting Cards of Plants, Flowers, Houses,Business shop fronts, portraits, views of Italy.
Jane Evans studied Chinese Brush Painting at the Chinese Artists’ Guild and the Philippine Chinese Art Center in the Philippines, studying with Chen Bingsun, Hau Chiok and Sy Chiu Hua. After returning to Britain, Jane continued to develop her painting, exploring the versatility of Chinese techniques and materials by using them in adventurous ways. Drawing on Eastern and Western ideas about light, space and perspective, she has evolved a highly original style, creating colourful abstracted paintings that combine both aesthetic traditions.
Jane has held successful one-woman exhibitions and taken part in group shows. She undertakes commissions and runs courses and workshops in Britain and abroad. She is Honorary Co-president of the Chinese Brush Painters Society.
