Opened in august 2008, art’s complex is a self-funding charitable organisation based in Saint Margaret’s House, 151 London Road, Edinburgh. Our main aim is to try to redress part of the imbalance in the working artist/affordable space ratio that exists in the city.
Our mid to long term objective is to reach out specifically to the surrounding community through arts education and participatory projects. We hope to enhance this aim by inviting culturally diverse projects and artists to show/discuss their work in art’s complex.
We have approximately 70 000 sq ft of useable space. On completion of phase one of the art’s complex project, we will accommodate 120 individual studio spaces, 11 000 square feet gallery/event space and an equivalent 11 000 square feet of available community education/art therapy space.
We are soon to open a printmaking workshop with dark room and a theatre school.
The Jardine Gallery and Workshop is the workplace of ceramic sculptor Julian Jardine who specializes in creating endangered species. The workshop runs classes for children and adults in clay, drawing and painting. The gallery features a wide variety of work based on wildlife, landscapes and organic forms.

I enjoy travelling and photography. The subject matter of my paintings is often from those travels.
Although I trained as an illustrator/caricaturist, which is predominantly a drawing skill, chemotherapy left me with neuropathy in my hands which made drawing painful so I turned to painting which is easier on the hands.I have had some success since 2004 selling through exhibitions, art auctions, galleries and private commissions.
I work first hand from direct observation or from photographs taken by myself, which connects me with the subject and acts as an aide memoire. Subjects include beach scenes, beach huts, landscapes and flower paintings. Watercolour or acrylics are my preferred media. Colour, composition and texture are important elements.

I make expressive carved sculptures in a variety of media, sometimes for commissions. I have worked on sculptures in Canada, Serbia, and Italy, and spend part of each year in Italy at a studio in Carrara. My work is figurative and also abstract.

Ros Callander is a professional contemporary Scottish artist. She paints mainly sunset paintings, seascapes and landscapes and her art has been described as “arresting and atmospheric”. Ros occasionally does portraiture, however her main love is nature and it’s influences on her native Scotland. Ros’s work, which is still very affordable, is increasing in popularity, often leading to waiting lists for her commissioned pieces.
