Cosmopolis – The International Gathering of Storymakers
A festival of words, images and sounds to celebrate and explore the universal human practice of making stories, to take place on the University of East Anglia campus on 5th June 2010.
Featuring: AMIT CHAUDHURI, GEOFF DYER, HAND ULRICH OBRIST, GILES FODEN, DAYANITA SINGH, RICHARD T KELLY, DOMINIQUE GONZALEZ-FOERSTER, JASON COWLEY, JAY GRIFFITHS, KEVIN CUMMINS, KEREN CYTTER, ALAN EDWARDS, LEE BRACKSTONE, AUSTIN WILDE, DEREK JOHNS, JUDY COUNIHAN.
Cosmopolis, a major summit in the arts will mark the launch of Think Something Different, a scheme designed to create a scholarship fund for the University of East Anglia’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Think Something Different is supported by a number of the foremost figures in the Arts today, from the novelist Ian McEwan, to the President of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), Sir Colin Davis, and the former Director of the National Theatre, Sir Richard Eyre.
Cosmopolis will bring together distinguished figures from the creative industries; people who have contributed to stories that have become important to audiences and readerships around the world today. In addition to a series of panel discussions, there will be Cosmopolis Masterclasses, giving audiences a rare insight into the secrets of the creative industries. Please see programme below.

Haydn Marathon – Marquee close to Drama Studio – 10:00 – 18:00*
The UEA Symphony Orchestra are bringing to Cosmopolis a day-long marathon of Haydn symphonies from No.1 to No.104. You can pay £10 for a slot conducting from the podium or £5 to play with the orchestra in order to raise funds for a Performance Scholarship - or simply come to enjoy the music for free!The Narrative of Human Rights – Lecture Theatre 2 – 10:00
A discussion between BAFTA award-winning producer Judy Counihan (Cast Offs, No Man’s Land, Antonia’s Line), writer and Sunday Times correspondent Hala Jaber (winner of the Amnesty International Journalist of the Year Award and the British Press Awards Foreign Correspondent of the Year, 2005 & 2006) and writer Jay Griffiths (Wild: An Elemental Journey, Pip Pip: A sideways look at time. The eminent international curator Hans Ulrich Obrist counts interviewing as an activity of parallel importance to his curating and boasts 19 books of interviews.
