‘Anthropocene’ Featuring 'Seven Wonders'– Paul Evans, Solo Exhibition
Friday 26 March - Sunday 9 May 2010.

Paul Evans is a Sheffield based artist and winner of the international ‘Eye storm Painting Prize’ 2007. We are excited to introduce to you this new solo exhibition here at Cupola and would like to thank all that attended his opening night, it was a great success!

The exhibition is split between two rooms: in the Main Gallery downstairs there are abstract paintings that are, effectively, accretions of thought memory and feeling. Upstairs in the Long Gallery are a number of figurative paintings based around the concept of ‘Seven Wonders’; seven spectacular landmarks from the Derbyshire peak District.

“An excellent show, the melt series stands out for me and upstairs the sequence works really well”
– Chris Jones

"Catching Crows" By Lyn Hodnett

"Catching Crows" By Lyn Hodnett

Lyn Hodnett's instantly recognizable work features strong, robust women. Bright and bold ladies cavorting about and the influence of popular myth and story is always close at hand. Lyn's preferred medium, acrylic on paper and card Is successfully combined with charcoal, coloured pencils and varnish, resulting in great depth of colour and vitality. "Vibrant colour and humor have long been central to Lyn's work. Recently the colour although still rich is darker, as though everything is bathed in a mystical twilight. The humor too is more veiled and therefore more intriguing.

Lyn Hodnett, a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, has won five national art prizes including the British Airways Young Achievers in Art Award, resulting in a commission to create a 5ftx8ft painting for Heathrow Airport. Recently Lyn's work has changed in tone and the women in her bold and vividly coloured paintings are now more often alone. Stylistically there is a new air of realism. Her love of the medium of painting is still very much apparent in the opulent colour and rich texture of the work.

"Shadow No 2" By David Lucas

David Lucas

David Lucas has exhibited internationally over the last twenty one years, taking part in several hundred exhibitions including fifteen solo shows. A regular exhibitor with Cupola Gallery since 1996 Lucas's oils on canvas are primarily concerned with depicting evocative images using intense colour, gestural mark making and the painterly abstraction of landscape.

"Resting Together" By Barbara Sykes

"Resting Together" By Barbara Sykes

Barbara Sykes' work is considered meditation on the 'human condition' from birth to death. By pouring and staining the paper the paint is allowed to ebb and flow organically.

"In my paintings and drawings I aim to echo the fragilities, the exentricities, the insecurities of the human condition. The colours and marks that i make are pertinent to both the subject and to myself. The figures convey a touch of humour and a touch of optimism."

"Silver and Enamel Jewellery" By Kokkino

"Silver and Enamel Jewellery" By Kokkino

Kokkino was established in 2003 and in it's first year has gone from strength to strength - an ever growing list of stockists can now be found throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Contemporary jewellery with simple yet striking design is the key to all of the ranges. Classic silver with the addition of beautiful colours in vitreous enamels, plus the new range of silver with contrasting yellow gold, all pieces are undoubtably contemporary, yet ultimately wearable modern classics. Simple styling throughout the range make each piece so versatile, striking and feminine that it's simply impossible to resist!
