Brief Description
One topic I paint is the fishing villages and coastal towns around the UK, especially Devon, Cornwall, Yorkshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Wales. My love for the sea comes from the 20 years I lived on Anglesey and the memories have prompted several paintings.
Profile

I am a painter living in Rutland. Using mostly watercolours I paint landscapes using a loose and impressionistic, sometimes witty and whimiscal style, in a simple naive almost childlike perspective. My paintings depict coastal fishing towns, villages and market towns in the countryside. The images I create are not a true photographic facsimile but my interpretation of the landscape. I try and capture the essence, ambiance and the spirit of the place and people I choose to paint.
I have sold my paintings from exhibitions in Rutland, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Wales, and various locations and galleries in Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Essex, London, Nottinghamshire and Wales.
Also since launching my web site I have sold all over the world, including USA, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Romania, Spain, Holland, Peru plus many more and all over the UK. If you wish to look at my paintings and maybe perhaps buy one please look in my Gallery. Prints are also available.

Canal basin Skipton, N. Yorks., UK

This is my impression of the canal basin in Skipton where visitors can take boat trips on the canal, walk along the network of canal towpaths or simply sit and watch the colourful narrow-boats go by. Traditional and modern boats can be seen on this stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal which threads its way through the centre of Skipton.

I spent a beautiful day in this atmospheric and tourist haven fishing village in Cornwall. I lingered for rather a long time in the Blue Peter Pub (bottom left) on account of the good beer, good food and the fantastic company, what a tremendous pub, full of traditional atmosphere and clientele, well worth a visit. Hic!

Ale to St Johns Stamford Lincs, UK. by Stuart Ball

My impression of the area of Stamford from All Saints Brewery through Red Lion Sq. to St Johns Church, showing the shops around the square and the artists display boards from the event called “Art in the Square” which occurred every Friday during the spring/summer/autumn months. All Saints Brewery was originally established in 1825 as a steam-operated brewery, it was restored in the late 1990's to produce specialised fruit beers from a micro-brewery known as Melbourn Bros. All Saints Brewery.

Padstow Cornwall UK

Padstow Cornwall UK

My impression of fishing resort in Cornwall made famous by TV chef Rick Stein. I have included his Seafood Restaurant (with suitable signage on terrace), his Bistro, his Fish 'n' Chip shop, his deli, his boat, his pet seagull, and now the town is called Padstein. The port is the other way round from the way that I have painted it, but all the buildings are there, as you can probably remember if you have visited.

Colourful image of the atmospheric fishing village in N. Yorks that has become an artist's community. The cottages tumble down to the harbour and beck which you access via the numerous ginnels and snickels. If you have not been here you must visit but on a sunny day. The beach is great for children with exciting rockpools at low tide.

My representation of the beautiful coastal resort in Pembrokeshire in South Wales. Enjoy a walk around the harbour and take a boat trip to Caldey Island where Monks live and prepare perfume for you to buy. This walled town is packed with tourists during the peak summer season and you will find it hard to find somewhere to park.

The Periwig Stamford Lincs. UK

The Periwig Stamford Lincs. UK

My impression of the Crown Hotel and a pub intriguingly named “The Periwig”. This was the name for those long curly wigs worn in France and England during the Middle Ages. Remember the Roundheads and Cavaliers, so why name a pub after a wig?. Never mind the ale is still good.

Vanda's all sold out, Red Lion Sq., Stamford, Lincs., UK

This is my impression of the Art on Fridays event in Red Lion Sq. in Stamford. This has been a regular event over the summer months depending on the weather, there have been 9 - 11 artists attending on a weekly basis and they have formed a quite a camaradie between themselves. The facility provided by the Chamber of Commerce has enabled us all to sell our work, it has been great.

Impression of the coastal fishing village with the tumbling cottages and the ginnells and snickets giving access to the beach. All the pubs, restaurants, cafes, fish & chip shop etc, are really there, but not necessarily those colours.
